What is naviC?
NaviC stands for NAVigation with Indian Constellation which was derived from an Indian word `Navik` means sailor. As we know in older times sea sailors used stars and constellation to navigate throughout the Ocean and to reach their destination. On same concept with some modern touch NaviC is based. ISRO launched total 8 satellites for NaviC to function within the South Asian Region later on ISRO will extend the range of NaviC to work it will depend on the demand of the consumers and response from them.
Why ISRO reached Qualcomm for Irnss does smartphone need additional chip to use navic?
Yes, NaviC would require a additional chip to function in the device the chip can be integrated the processor and the internal circuit of the mobile phone or any other devices. Software work would be done by the developers of ISRO and the OS or mobile company. Qualcomm recently launched a special chipset (Processor) for NaviC support. Like USA has GPS India have its own Navigation System NaviC. Many Companies are signing MoU with ISRO for developing integrating these services in their devices and other Products.
Qualcomm has also signed various MoU with ISRO and other business partnership deals with ISRO. OS companies like Color OS has also launched a different distribution for NaviC system to work.

Recently Multinational mobile brand Oppo has signed a MoU with ISRO for integrating NaviC in their Mobile Phones (Upcoming) the new models will be launched upcoming year 2022. It will have many exciting features for South Asian region exclusively like Storm alert (2 hours ago) which will fishermen who are fishing in the Ocean and they could save them from the upcoming Storm.
